Meditation Beginners A Good Way To Get Started

If you have never meditated before give attention to these points:

To begin with the duration of the meditation is not so important. What is important is that you regularly practice your meditation.
So instead of meditating for a long period, and doing this for several days and then taking a month off, what you are really after, is practicing meditation for 5 to 10 minutes a time but meditate everyday.

Simple is best. There are so many ways of meditation, find one that works for you. When you start off, simple is always to be preferred.
The less you need to remember the smoother you can ease into your meditation practice.

When you are practicing meditation and setting up a practice time, try to be consistent with the time of day that you meditate. So for instance, if evening time is good for you try to meditate at the same time every day
If you don’t have a job with fixed hours or you run around different times and days then meditate in the morning or practice in the evening whenever you can fit it in. But it always makes it a little easier to turn a practice into a routine if you can keep consistency in all the areas of the meditation.

When you are meditating try not to do so on a full stomach, if you are going to have a meal before practice have a small meal the best is no more than a ½ hour before practice.
After eating a lot wait a minimum of 2 hours. If you don’t wait at least 2 hours after a main meal the blood will be in the digestive system and you will feel tired and fall asleep.
When you are practicing meditation it’s important to be very relaxed but very alert and you are not going to be able to do that when you are falling in to sleep.

When you are sitting it is important that the back bone be erect but the body be relaxed.
Now usually meditation practice is done on the floor but if you have physical disabilities or extreme amounts of stiffness in your hips or lower back maybe you better start by sitting on a chair and that is entirely all right, but if you are sitting on a chair don’t sit on one of those really big comfortable chairs. Because you back will bend into it. You will want to sit on a chair that is straight at a straight back so the spine remains up right.
