Food addiction is a term given when someone makes food the outlet for his or her problems. It does not matter what the cause is. But, just because addictive behaviors are behaviors doesn’t mean the addiction is not a real problem, rather it is not something that a person can always stop on their own and food addictions are a process that a person must go through in order to take control of their body and to replace the food they eat with other more healthy behaviors that do not cause harm to their body and their mind.

There is no doubt that foods can affect a person’s mood. There is a lot of truth in the saying that you are what you eat. Depending upon what a person eats they will feel different physical things. Not everyone who is suffering from this problem is obese. There are also sufferers who are on the other end of the spectrum. There are many eating disorders that are associated with people who are not obese. People should not judge someone based on only their appearance.

A holistic approach to the problem is often the best. It is not always about what they eat. It is about how and why they eat. People will be able to control their addiction if they are able to understand this.
