“It’s not the stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it” – Hans Selye
Everybody faces stress at one time or another. It’s part of life. We all like to think that stress is bad however it doesn’t have to be. Stress is anything that activates the body’s stress mechanism, so that would mean things that bring us joy are just as stressful. Getting married, beginning a new job, moving to a brand new town, can all be great things to look forward to yet, they can cause a lot of stress. Learning to handle ALL stress, without reference to the cause is crucial due to the harm it causes each of us.
We are emotional, physical, social and spiritual individuals, and none of us escapes the consequences of stress as it impacts our body. Stress can take an amazing toll on our physical bodies.
“Worry and stress affects the circulation, the heart, the glands and the whole nervous system and profoundly affects heart action.” – Charles W. Mayo M.D.
“If your teeth are clenched and your fists are clenched, your lifespan is probably clenched.” – Adabella Radici
Stress can do damage to our behaviors, as it is not odd to find stressed people fighting to think, start to forget things, start having compulsive behaviour, unusual restlessness, nervousness, absence of motivation and irritation.
Emotions can also pay a price as a fear of dying could begin to consume you. That together with worry, tearfulness, nervousness, morbid self-awareness, increased guilt or shame, fear of going crazy, panic feelings and / or fear of imminent doom can makes stress a threatening enemy.
If stress is unavoidable and the implications of living alongside it for any time period can be serious, how does one handle it in order to avoid a miserable existence or an early death?
A few practical things to do to start to cut back the negative results of stress.
Sleeping well : The truth is that we need all the sleep we can get if we’re going to defuse stress. Sleep is a vital antidote for the stress of everyday living. Doctor. Archibald D. Hart. Good sleep does not come from sleeping tablets, which only creates havoc in the body and interferes with the bodys capability to drop off to sleep naturally. If you can’t sleep, it’s way better to just lie down, immobilise your body and relax your body and mind as much as practicable. Even doing this will permit the brain to replace itself as you opt to think on beautiful, upbeat things. It also will be healing to your body and reverse the damage due to the stress of the day.
Discover how to Relax : Incredibly, there are people, and maybe you are someone who have no idea the simple way to relax. But if you are serious about mitigating the negative results of stress on their bodies and minds, one MUST learn to relax.
“Of all the techniques available for counteracting stress and reducing the symptoms of distress, deliberate relaxation represents the most well-deserved and thoroughly researched. It is safe, effective and it doesn’t cost anything. Not only is it the cheapest healing force we know of, it is also probably the most effective. Believe me, relaxation is an awesome healing method.” Dr. Archibald D. Hart
Relaxation can significantly improve hypertension, stress headaches and sleeplessness, among other stress-related disorders. We can’t under estimate the power of relaxation to promote healing and restoration to the body. (For precise relaxing exercises you can try the book Adrenaline and Stress by Doctor. Archibald D. Laughter : Laughter heals many things, including anger. It also helps to restore point of view on life and creates cheerfulness in others. Proverbs 17:22 has been proven scientifically over and over again “A cheerful heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit makes one sick.” There’s a great quantity of evidence to suggest that two of the best stimulants to our immune reaction are humor and happiness. Curiously enough, laughter is also good for high cholesterol, ulcers and headaches. Why not start laughing out loud!
As discussed before, we aren’t just physical and emotional beings, but spiritual beings also. It’s the strength of our spiritual life which will best determine how we handle and respond to the tensions of life. A connection with God, thru belief in His Son permits us to live by a power that isn’t our own. As Believers in Christ, we are given the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit and the continual presence of Our Lord God, which is the best cure of stress there is .
Matthew 6:25 tells us that we are not to worry about our life “what we’ll eat or what we’re going to drink, nor our body as regards what we will put on.
Why? Because your Heavenly Father, the source of everything we need, guarantees to care and provide for us as we pursue Him first and make Him our first priority in our lives.
Philippians 4:6 says “Don’t worry about anything but in everything by prayer and supplications with Thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
When you’re overpowered with life and it seems to be more than you can bear, you have a decision to make. You can struggle thru as best you can with hopes you’ll come out just fine. Or you can take God up on His promise to come to Him with all of your fears and cares, acknowledging with a thankful heart that He alone is able to make a way for you thru the stresses and burdens of life.
Living the Christian life does not necessarily imply sunshine and roses all the time but it means we’ve everything we need from God to handle the pressures in life that come our way. Reciting His guarantees of how He promises to guard, provide, care for, strengthen and do for us surpassing abundantly above all we could ask or think will feed our soul and fortify our mind so that we do not succumb to the otherwise unavoidable results of stress.
